Although corns and calluses are both thick, hardened layers of skin that develop when your skin tries to protect itself against friction, they are not the same thing. Corns are painful, smaller and have a hard centre surrounded by inflamed skin. Corns tend to develop in places on your foot that do not bear weight such as around your toes. Calluses, on the other hand, are rarely painful and usually occur on the soles, especially around the heels or balls of your feet.
In most cases, our Podiatrists can simply trim and shape the skin to eliminate the source of friction/pressure during a general treatment.
Please be aware that if you have diabetes or any other condition which results in poor blood flow to your feet we advise that you DO NOT cut these corns or calluses yourself. These conditions require expert advice and proper care from our Podiatrists.
